DAY 1
Depart Siem Reap for Puok District to visit some local handicraft projects that supply some of the boutiques and galleries in Siem Reap, including the Angkor Handicraft Association (AHA – www.aha-kh.com). When in Siem Reap town, do visit the AHA Market where you can buy all the original local handicraft products from Cambodia with a seal of authenticity. Also visit the Artisans Angkor Silk Farm, a handicraft revitalisation project that offers skills training and employment opportunities to young Cambodians.
After lunch, experience an ox cart ride, a traditional form of transport in the Cambodian countryside, the original 4WD. Then it is time to visit the floating village of Me Chrey, where life takes place on the water. One of the smaller floating villages on the lake, it is an atmospheric place to explore by boat. It is possible to explore the flooded forest of Me Chrey village by kayak and this is a memorable opportunity to spot water birds. For those that want to extend the stay, it is possible to camp at Rabbit Garden Restaurant or sleep at Rainbow Homestay.
